Women of Substance

Since 2007 I have worked with clothing forms as a way of exploring the facade that women present to the world. Women fashion a persona, usually several personae, using their culture’s Feminine tropes. Female personae are pretty things made of sinister materials. They are a feminine disguise that slowly and surely confuses both the wearer and the beholder as to the nature of the person within. Yet, the Feminine disguise continues to seduce, its charm seems impervious to intellectual analysis.

As Hilton Als writes “femininity, as an idea, does f**k you up.” That is the conundrum that I explore as a Feminist artist. This current series of mixed media works is called Women of Substance.
